Sherborn’s 350th

Sherborn’s celebratory 350th anniversary reached an exuberant climax on October 5, 2024 with a parade and the SherbStock music festival. The SHC&M’s entry in the parade was a reproduction of one of the steam-driven paddle steamers that ploughed the waves of Farm Pond from 1880-1893. The float’s inspiration came from pictures in the SHC&M’s collection. Kevin Delaney organized and led the work crew which included George Motley, Steve Petty, and Tom Mahard. Seated on board was Curator Martha Mahard, wearing a period-inspired chapeau of her own creation. Steve Petty “captained” the float with his vintage 1944 John Deere tractor in place of the steam engine.
